Since joining FOX Sports in 2001, Jeff Hammond has been quite busy!!
During NASCAR on FOX events, Jeff and partner Chris Myers host the weekly pre-race show from the famed "Hollywood Hotel" located near Victory Lane at each race track. Jeff contributes to the actual race broadcasts as an analyst which airs on FOX Sports.
In only their first year, NASCAR on FOX received six (6) Emmy nominations and amazingly took home three (3) of the coveted awards.
Jeff is seen every Friday night of race season doing Trackside Live on Speed Channel. He and host Steve Byrnes along with Darrell Waltrip, Larry McReynolds and Elliott Sadler bring you all of the happenings on and off the race track.
Additionally, Jeff, Larry McReynolds and Mike Joy have done numerous Winston Cup Qualifying shows in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 for the Speed Channel. Jeff has also been a color commentator on shows such as The NEXTEL Pit Crew Championship and The Pit Crew Challenge Powered by Tyson. found on the Speed Channel. If that weren't enough, Jeff alternates on a Sunday evening NASCAR wrap up show that is also seen on Speed Channel.
Jeff can also be seen hosting shows such as "Men Behind The Wrenches" and NASCAR Performance which air on FOX Sports Net and Speed Channel. Jeff is also one of the booth announcers for the IROC series of races at their selected events.
Jeff has worked on major motion pictures like "Days of Thunder" and "Bandit Goes Country" a made for TV movie.
Jeff has appeared in national TV commercials for such companies as Western Auto, Stacker 2, and the Ford Motor Company. Each year Jeff does numerous speaking engagements for national companies like Exxon/Mobile, MBNA America and IBM.
Jeff's career began in NASCAR in 1974 working as a mechanic and tire changer for Walter Ballard.
Becoming one of the best jack men in the business, Hammond served on all three of driver Cale Yarborough's Winston Cup Championship seasons.
Legendary driver Darrell Waltrip took over for Yarborough in 1981 and the Junior Johnson owned team won the championship that year.
At the encouragement of Waltrip, Johnson promoted Jeff to the crew chief position for the start of the 1982 season. As the old saying goes "The Rest Is History".
Two more championships and 43 wins with Waltrip followed placing Hammond in the record books as one of NASCAR'S all-time great crew chiefs. Born on September 9, 1956, Hammond still resides in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.
Jeff is a strong supporter of our military and has traveled in their support to Germany, Bosnia, Spain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Iraq. He has flown with the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy's Blue Angels, and was taught how to skydive by members of the U.S. Army's Golden Knights.
Always willing to help, Jeff spends time working for charities like ST. Judes, and Victory Junction Gang Camp. Jeff will be quick to tell you that one of his proudest moments came when General Tom Sadler and Bruton Smith named him National Spokesperson for Speedway Children's Charities. In Jeff's words "It's all about the kids and that's what makes it really special".
In 2004 along with partner Tom DeLoach, Jeff opened PIT Instruction and Training. This is an ultra modern facility to train pit crews and provide motivational training for corporations and elite athletes.
In 2005 again with partner Deloach, Jeff became part owner in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series team # 1 driven by Aaron Fike.
Besides his love of racing, Jeff also has a passion for horses, rodeo, team roping, scuba diving, and hunting. Jeff also seeks thrills in professional wrestling's TNA sanctioned events. Jeff's heroes include his father, John Wayne, Junior Johnson and Jack Roush.
